The camshaft is responsible for controlling the opening and closing of both the intake and exhaust valves in the engine. Depending on the configuration of the vehicle, there are 2 main designations called SOHC or DOHC:
Single OverHead Camshaft: 1 camshaft per cylinder bank, controls intake and exhaust valves.
Double Overhead Camshaft: 2 camshafts per cylinder bank, (1 for the intake valves and 1 for the exhaust valves).

RECOMMENDATIONS WHEN INSTALLING
- It is recommended to keep in total order and clean the work space, since contamination of the camshaft or oil during installation can cause damage during start-up.
- It is recommended to perform pre-lubrication camshaft and other valve train components, otherwise damage may occur due to lack of lubrication of the camshaft during initial start-up of the component.
- During the first start-up it is recommended Start the engine as quickly as possible, and rev it between 1500 to 2000 RPM, keeping it idling during the first start-up can cause it not to be lubricated properly and cause premature damage, during this first start-up it is necessary to pay attention to the oil pressure.
- It is recommended to change the impellers of the valves, since they are components that wear together with the camshaft.
